Why the city's most considered stays now sit on the Kowloon side — and which view to ask for.

For most of Hong Kong's modern history the correct answer was Central: [Mandarin Oriental](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/mandarin-oriental-hong-kong) since 1963, the [Four Seasons](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/four-seasons-hotel-hong-kong) since 2005, with [The Landmark Mandarin Oriental](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/the-landmark-mandarin-oriental-hong-kong) as the boutique alternative folded into the city's best shopping. That answer still works. But the stays we find ourselves recommending first now sit across the water.

## The Kowloon argument

The geometry is simple: from Tsim Sha Tsui you look at the skyline rather than out from inside it. [Rosewood Hong Kong](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/rosewood-hong-kong) has defined the waterfront since 2019 — Tony Chi interiors with a residential calm, the Asaya wellness floors, and a harbour-facing pool terrace without equal in the city. Three minutes north, [The Peninsula](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/the-peninsula-hong-kong) remains the grande dame it has been since 1928; the Pen's fleet of green Rolls-Royces is a cliché precisely because nothing else announces an arrival as well.

Above the ICC, [The Ritz-Carlton](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/the-ritz-carlton-hong-kong) stacks the highest hotel floors on earth — rooms from the 102nd storey, and Ozone for a nightcap in the clouds. It is the view-maximalist's choice, and surprisingly strong for families.

## What to ask for

Harbour view, always, and high floor at the Ritz-Carlton goes without saying. At the Rosewood, the corner Grand Harbour rooms justify the step up. At the Peninsula, the newer tower rooms above the fifteenth floor carry the classic view with the better bathrooms. On the Island side, [The St. Regis](https://advisory.utopian.vc/hotels/the-st-regis-hong-kong) in Wan Chai is the sleeper: André Fu interiors, two Michelin-starred restaurants in-house, and butler service on every booking.

Where a documented programme applies, the exact inclusions are confirmed for the dates before booking; no standard package is assumed.
